Sandra Curt, Longtime Physical Education Teacher, Coach at Lexington High School, Dies at 64

Curt died unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 27.

Sandra “Sandy” Curt, who taught physical education and coached varsity field hockey, girls’ basketball and softball at Lexington High School for 30 years, died unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 27, in her Billerica home. She was 64.

Curt, a Fall River native, was a four-sport athlete at Somerset High School and went on to play all four sports at Northeastern University, which she graduated from with a teaching degree in 1971, according to her obituary on Hathaway Family Funeral Homes website.

Curt got her master’s in education from Cambridge College in 1977. After her long career in Lexington, she retired in 2008.

During her career, she received numerous “Coach of the Year” awards from the Boston Globe, in all three sports she coached, according to her obituary. She was the first female inducted into the Somerset High School Hall of Fame. She is also in the Northeastern University and Lexington High School halls of fame.

Calling hours for Curt will be held Friday, from 4-7 p.m., in the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffington St., Somerset. Her funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial to follow in Nathan Side Cemetery, Somerset.
