"Scouting for Food" Campaign Helps Lexington Families in Need

The Boy Scouts of America “Scouting for Food” campaign is underway.  This fall, more than 25,000 scouts are participating in the annual drive to collect non-perishable food items to help feed children and families in need.  The Scouts dropped off information in Lexington neighborhoods and across Massachusetts last weekend, and will return to those neighborhoods Saturday, November 2 to pick up the donated items.  The Boy Scouts are trying to reach the goal of collecting 500,000 pounds of food in neighborhoods from the North Shore to Cape Cod.  Lexington Cub Scout Pack 197 is participating and will deliver its donated non-perishable food items to the Lexington Interfaith Food Pantry.

Last Saturday, Scouts were out in full force visiting neighborhoods in Eastern Massachusetts with grocery bags and door hangers.  They left them at residences along with information explaining the collection process.  The Scouts will return to those homes this Saturday, Nov. 2 to pick up the donated items.  Drop-off locations are also listed for individuals and families that prefer to give their non-perishable donations before the Nov. 2 pick-up date.  Clear Channel Outdoor has donated dozens of billboards throughout the region to promote Scouting for Food.

“Scouting for Food has a positive impact on the ability of local food banks to assist underprivileged families heading into the holiday season,” said Chuck Eaton, Chief Executive of the Boy Scouts Boston Minuteman Council.  “We are grateful to Clear Channel Outdoor for supporting our youth organization and its commitment to improve the lives of those less fortunate.”
