Wilson said the promotions are something LFD has been trying to accomplish for a number of years, and was recommended in a recent report.
All four of the new lieutenants were members of the Lexington Fire Department, and the department -- while in the process of recruiting and hiring four new firefighters -- will not be hiring to replace them.
"This is a very exciting time at the Lexington Fire Department," said Town Manager Carl Valente.
Valente explained the town is in the process of recruiting and hiring four new firefihtters and a new assistant chief.
The new hires will be funded through a SAFER grant, and will allow LFD to staff Rescue 2, an ambulance, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
