LPD Investigating Weekend House Breaks

Two unlocked homes, two cases of breaking-and-entering and one bag that could tie them together.

Police in Lexington are investigating a pair of house breaks that allegedly occurred late Friday night into Saturday, leading to a multi-agency search that came up empty in the early morning hours of July 20.

According to scanner reports, Lexington Police responded to a residential burglary in progress on Westwood Road shortly before 3 a.m. on Saturday morning. The homeowner reportedly heard noises and came upon an unknown man in his kitchen.

The man, described as being light-skinned with medium build, reportedly fled through the back door, prompting a multi-agency search of the area. Officers and K-9 units set up perimeters and scoured the area, but began pulling back from the area as the sun came up around 6 a.m.

A new wrinkle emerged later in the morning, when a Woodland Road resident reported his iPhone was missing and tracking technology led police back to the area of the Westwood Road break.

According to police, both homes were unlocked at the time of the alleged burglaries, and the Woodland Road resident didn’t realize his home had been entered until he noticed his phone was missing.

The Woodland Road resident’s iPhone was located near the Westwood Road scene inside a bag, which contained other items taken from the Woodland residence, police said. It’s unclear whether anything was actually taken from the Westwood Road residence.

As of Monday, the reported residential burglaries remain under investigation, according to the Lexington Police Department.
