Update: Woman in Protective Custody in Connection with Young Boy Whose Body Was Found in Maine

Just before 5 p.m. Wednesday night, State Police Spokesman David Procopio  addressed the media outside the Concord State Police barracks with regard to a suspect in protective custody at the barracks in connection with the death of a young boy whose body was found in South Berwick, Maine.

Addressing reporters, he would not confirm the woman's name or a familial relationship, nor would say if she confessed. There was a development at some point during the day today that puts the case into the hands of the New Hampshire Attorney General's office. They aren't expected to comment on the situation until Thursday.

The woman in custody was taken out of the state police barracks by Concord emergency response personnell and transported to Emerson Hospital for observation where she remains tonight.

Massachusetts State Police and Maine investigators were inside the Massachusetts State Police barracks in Concord this afternoon questioning an approximiately 40-year-old woman found in Chelmsford this morning in connection with the death of a young boy found in South Berwick, Maine this week.

The State Police spokesman briefing media outside the Concord barracks said the suspect was taken into protective custody for her own protection and has not been arrested and is not being uncooperative. 

Reporters are waiting to hear from Massachusetts State Police Colonel Marian McGovern who is expected to brief them within the hour.

The woman is in protective custody after she was encountered at a rest stop on Rte. 495 South in Chelmsford late this morning. She was found sitting in a vehicle that matched the description released previously of a blue Toyota pickup.

She is currently being interviewed.

The pickup truck was towed to the Danvers State Police barracks.

Reporters on scene have been told Colonel McGovern will not go into details about the Maine investigation, but will discuss the situation this morning in Chelmsford.
