Violent Crime Rates Level, Property Crime and Larceny Down in Lexington

The FBI's Uniform Crime Report has been released.

The FBI’s Uniform Crime Report shows that violent crimes stayed steady in 2012 compared to 2011 in Lexington, while other crimes showed a decrease in town in 2012. Violent crime is down from 2010. 

The FBI's annual report includes information submitted by local law enforcement agencies. The information is compiled and released to the public in the fall after the reporting year.

There were 13 reported violent crimes in Lexington in 2012, which is the same as 2011 but a decrease from the 19 in 2010. Violent crime includes murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault.

From 2010 to 2012 there were no murders or non-negligent manslaughter or cases of forcible rape. In 2010 there were three robberies but that dropped to zero for both 2011 and 2012. 

Both 2012 and 2011 had 13 instances of aggravated assault, down from 16 in 2010. 

Property crimes continue to be the most reported crimes in Lexington but was down from a spike in 2011. There were 226 property crimes reported in 2012, which is down from 332 in 2011 and 300 in 2010.

There were 36 burglaries reported in 2012, 69 in 2011 and 58 in 2010. 

Larceny and theft are also down. There were 190 instances reported in 2012, 263 in 2011 and 237 in 2010. 

Motor vehicle theft continues to be almost negligent in Lexington. There were no auto thefts in 2012 or 2011 but there were five in 2010. 

Finally, there were zero instances of arson in 2012 or 2010 but there were four cases in 2011.
