Local Sex Offender Sent Back to Prison Following Incidents, Including In Lexington

While out on probation, the resident allegedly made several women feel uncomfortable during interactions.

A Woburn sex offender was sent back to jail recently after several incidents that did not constitute a crime but were enough to raise red flags on if he was ready to be out on probation, according to a report on CBS Boston.

The news station reported that Kevin Cronin spent about 20 years in prison for raping a teenager before he was released in January on probation with the condition that he wear a GPS monitoring bracelet.

But CBS reported that Cronin is now back in prison after multiple incidents were reported of him making women feel uncomfortable. During one of the incidents, CBS reported that Cronin approached two teenagers and asked them person questions. During the other, he allegedly asked a Burlington laundry clerk if she does laundry in lieu of sex.

According to CBS, prosecution also stated that security guards at the Grace Chapel in Lexington saw Cronin leering at women and following at least one of them around asking inappropriate questions.

A hearing to decide if Cronin will be released from prison again was set for later this month, according to CBS.

According to the Woburn Police Department website, Cronin was convicted of assault with intent to rape in March 1989. In addition, in May 1995 he was convicted of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older, assault with intent to commit rape and assault of a child with intent to commit rape.

"The (Sex Offender Registry Board) has determined that this individual is at a high risk to reoffend and that the degree of dangerousness posed to the public is such that a substantial public safety interest is served by active community notification," the Woburn Police website reads.
