UPDATE: Markey Responds to Brown's Residency Question

Scott Brown has questioned Ed Markey's Massachusetts residency, according to reports, firing an early salvo in what could be the Senate special election showdown.

Updated at 7:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2:

In response to this story, Giselle Barry, a spokesperson for US Rep. Ed Markey, sent Patch this statement:

"Scott Brown has not yet announced that he is running for Senate, but he is already launching false, personal attacks from the sidelines. Ed Markey lives in Malden, and has lived there his entire life. He and his wife own their home in Malden. He is proud to come from and represent the values of the people of Malden. This campaign should be about what matters most to the people of Massachusetts: jobs, education, health care and the environment."

In a radio interview Wednesday morning, U.S. Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) jabbed at Democratic Congressman Edward Markey about his residency in Malden, according to a Boston.com report.

Brown questioned if Markey, who currently represents Lexington in the US House, still lives in Massachusetts and also told WTKK-FM he often sees members of the Bay State congressional delegation on planes trips home but said "I have never seen Ed on the airplane—ever," according to the report.

This salvo from Brown could be a preview of a possible showdown with Markey over the Senate seat expected to be vacated by John Kerry if he is confirmed as the next U.S. Secretary of State. Boston.com reports Brown has "hinted" he could run for the seat while Markey said he would run if Kerry's confirmation is successful.

A list of former Senator Brown's legislation, including that which helped returning vets find jobs, assisted fishermen in Gloucester & New Bedford fight stranglehold regulations imposed by NOAH, and stopped insider trading on Wall Street by Congressmen/women, to name just a few, would be too long to list here. He didn't always vote with his party, but he tried to vote on the merits of the bills--after actually reading them--and with the deadlock in Washington (that's sure to be even tighter with Warren's unwavering liberal/socialist agenda), even more of us in MA may soon be sorry Brown's not still representing us. As for Markey, he's been in Congress over 35 years, is another partisan liberal who does not represent the views of thousands of his constituents, and has been absent from his Malden "residence" so long that many of his own "neighbors" in the city didn't even know he lived there when he ran for re-election in 2010. The country's economy is still in an abysmal state, 75% of Americans just saw their taxes go up Jan. 1 (payroll tax--regardless of income level) and 17 new taxes are now in effect because of Obamacare. Hopefully, Scott Brown will run for Senate again, and win "the people's seat" so MA residents who want to see bipartisan solutions to America's most critical problems (and there are many right now) will be represented once again in Washington for at least a few years longer. He didn't further his carrer by pretending to be a minority. If he did the biased media would have never let us hear the end of it.

'Richard H' when one constantly creates sock puppet accounts based in Malden in order to comment on every post on which I'm active, it makes a guy suspicious. As I said before, the Malden moderator knows who you are. And he knows you're stalking me.
