Concord Selectman Howes Kicks Off Campaign for 3rd Middlesex State Senate

Concord Selectman Greg Howes on Thursday will officially launch his campaign for the 3rd Middlesex District Senate seat currently held by Susan Fargo, D-Lincoln.

Howes, a Republican who , said the Nov. 10 event will be an opportunity to begin recruiting volunteers and increasing his visibility beyond Concord and Carlisle. The 3rd Middlesex also includes Chelmsford, Lincoln, Bedford, Waltham, Weston and parts of Sudbury and Lexington.

“Thursday night will be more of a public introduction,” said Howes. “Because the district is so large, and because I’m a relative unknown, we need to start now.”

Howes’ campaign kickoff will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10 at 55 Garfield Road, Concord. The venue is the home of Robin and Mike Malouf, a former member of Concord’s Housing Development Corporation who has worked with Howes on affordable housing issues and projects around town.

With Election Day still a year away, Howes said he’s not concerned about getting out the vote, what with the presidential election and Brown vs. Warren and all. But establishing district-wide name recognition could be important to pick up votes amid the noise of the national election.

Howes is serving his second term on the Concord Board of Selectmen and is president/co-owner of the Howes Insurance Group.  He’s running on a campaign platform of bringing “Balanced Leadership to Beacon Hill.”

“We are going to, throughout this campaign, fight against partisan politics and ideology,” he said. “We do not have an ideological problem in Massachusetts. We have a systemic problem and that’s what we’re fighting against.”
