A Couple of Public Works That Could Impact the Public

In a pair of communications Thursday, Aug. 22, Lexington's Engineering Division alerted residents to upcoming projects.

Summertime, and the living’s easy – except, of course, for the roadwork.

With that in mind, Lexington's Department of Public Works, in its latest alerts, have attempted to inform the public about a pair of projects that might have flown under the radar but which could impact traffic and other aspects of daily life.

They are the Concord Avenue culvert replacement project and the Hanscom AFB conduit installation. Below you’ll find the notices from (and links to) both.

Concord Avenue Culvert Replacement

Culvert replacement will begin on Concord Ave (near the Belmont Line) on Friday, August 23, 2013 and will continue until completed including weekends (estimated time to complete is one week).

This work will be performed at night between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.. It will require a full closure during these hours but will be open to traffic outside of these hours. Concord Ave will be closed at Pleasant Street in Lexington and at Winter Street in Belmont. The detour will go from Pleasant Street to Watertown Street (Winter Street – Belmont) and back to Concord Ave. A detour will be setup as shown on the detour map with appropriate signing.

Hanscom AFB Conduit Installation

There will be conduit installation beginning on Monday, Aug. 26, along Spring Street. This work is not part of a town contract and is being installed privately. Delays should be expected due to the construction. Future work under this project includes conduit installation along Marrett Road – state road - (from Spring Street to Mass Ave), Mass Ave (from Marrett Road to Wood Street), Wood Street (from Mass Ave to Hartwell Ave) and Hartwell Ave (from Wood Street to the base). We will provide updates to the website as we receive the information from the private vendor. All disturbed areas will be properly restored upon the completion of the work.
