Lexington Citizens Academy: A Crash Course in Civis

Get an inside look at the departments and services of Lexington's local government, and learn about the role you play in town operations.

The following information was provided on behalf of the Town of Lexington.

The fifth annual Lexington Citizens’ Academy will begin in mid-September. The Academy will feature 10 sessions, held mainly on Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m.  Topics include:

  • Overview of the Town of Lexington 
  • Town Financials and Budget
  • Public Works & Public Facilities
  • Economic and Community Development
  • Safety Services
  • Human Services
  • Library
  • Recreation
  • Schools
  • Town Meeting
  • Town Clerk

Participants will attend interactive workshops led by Town and School staff at their respective facilities. Through presentations, discussions, and visits to town departments, residents will gain a deeper understanding of how Lexington's town government operates.

There is no fee to attend the Academy. Early registration is recommended as the Academy will be limited to 30 participants. Efforts will be made to be inclusive of all age groups. Preference will be given to those who have not previously served on any Town Boards or Committees, and those with fewer than five years of experience as Town Meeting Members.
