Newton Mayor to Run for Scott Brown's U.S. Senate Seat

Setti Warren announces he will run against Brown in 2012 race.

Newton Mayor Setti Warren on Monday announced he will be a candidate for the U.S. Senate seat currently occupied by Republican Scott Brown.

As mayor, Warren said in a press release that he has put Newton back on a financially sustainable path, while maintaining critical community services.  He also said he has saved Newton taxpayers $8 million while delivering two balanced budgets.   The Warren press release says he intends to remain a strong, involved, and hands-on mayor throughout the upcoming campaign.

Warren is an Iraq War veteran, and served a year-long tour of duty there as a naval intelligence specialist, before being elected mayor.  He also worked in the Clinton White House, and has been the New England Regional Director of FEMA.  He has served as John Kerry’s point man for small businesses in Massachusetts.

Warren's campaign officially kicked-off yesterday, with a service breakfast at American Legion Post 440 in Newton.  Mayor Warren says he will speak about his values of shared responsibility and about his plan to serve Massachusetts.

What do you think about Warren running for U.S. Senate? How will this affect Lexington?
