Under the current proposal, the town would acquire 13-plus acres of the farmland in Lexington’s northwest corner for conservation purposes, while small section of the land would be withheld from the sale and remain owned and occupied by the Wright family.

The proposed land acquisition heads to Town Meeting backed by the Board of Selectmen, Conservation Commission and Community Preservation Committee, which last Friday recommended using CPA funds for the purchase.

Supporters of the acquisition see Wright Farm’s fields as beautiful open space situated in an area that already includes the Burlington Landlocked Forest, the Paint Mine Conservation Area and Bedford’s Old Reservoir.

A conservation restriction would be placed on the land purchased, and the town would retain first right of refusal on the withheld parcel, that includes the farmhouse and barn. Affordable housing has been discussed as a future use for that lot should the Wright family decided to sell.

The selectmen and Conservation Commission will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at Cary Hall to .
