What's Going on with Grove Street?

Expect delays around Estabrook School access improvements.

Grove Street Roadway Improvements will be starting this week, according to a notice from Lexington's Engineering Division.

The work, which we previously reported would start the week of July 8, will take place between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., with road closures and access allowed for local traffic.

Due to the closures, the Engineering notice says, traffic will be detoured around the work site via Gould Road to Turning Mill Road to Robinson Road, with the detour posted and details directing traffic. Delays should be expected and alternate routes sought if possible.

According to the original work announcement, “Work includes lowering the profile of Grove Street to improve vehicle site distance. National Grid will also be working in the area lowering the gas main.”

The work is part of the Estabrook School building project, and is expected to continue through the summer.

Road access improvements rolled into the Estabrook School project aim to smooth out sight lines around the “T-intersection” at the elementary school’s driveway on Grove Street and adding a sidewalk along the northerly side of Robinson Road.

special Town Meeting in November 2012 approved $1.5 million to fund the access improvements.
