LHS Baseball, Softball Squads Host Playoff Games This Week

The No. 11 baseball squad hosts Newton North at 2 p.m. tomorrow, May 31, and the No. 12 softball team hosts Revere at 3:15 p.m. on Friday, June 1.

’s varsity baseball and softball teams have both locked up home playoff games in the preliminary rounds of the MIAA North Division 1 playoffs.

The No. 11-seeded baseball team hosts No. 22 Newton North at 2 p.m. tomorrow, May 31, and the softball team is the No. 12 seed and will host No. 21 Revere at 3:15 on Friday, June 1.

On the baseball diamond, the Minutemen finished 12-8. Their opponents from Newton North enter postseason play with a .500 record of 10-10.

Despite a landing a lower seed than their counterparts, the LHS softball team actually had a better record than the boys, finishing the season at 14-7. Their opponents from Revere went 10-10.

Both LHS squads enter the postseason riding high, with each team earning impressive wins to close out regular season play.

The softball team earned its share of the Middlesex League Large title with a 12-0 drubbing of Winchester and 9-6 win over Woburn High.  The baseball team, closing out its season with a win over top-seeded Lowell following a 2-0 shutout of Medford.
