LHS Fights Way into Div. 1 North Boys Hoops Finals

The No. 11 Minutemen held on for a 51-50 win over the second-seeded Acton-Boxboro to earn a spot in tomorrow night's finals against Charlestown.

The improbable run continues for the boys basketball team.

Last night in Lawrence, the No. 11 seeded Minutemen held on for a 51-50 win over No. 2 Acton-Boxboro to earn a spot in tomorrow night’s Division 1 North final at the Tsongas Center in Lowell.

There they’ll face No. 5 Charlestown after the Townies topped No. 1 Central Catholic 54-47 last night in Reading.

The Minutemen raced out to an early lead against A-B on Thursday night, taking a 27-16 advantage into halftime, but the Colonials cut it to a 35-33 deficit after the third quarter, according to the Lowell Sun.

LHS senior Chris O’Keefe sunk what turned out to be the winning jumper with 19 seconds to go, and A-B couldn’t connect on two shots to win it the final 12 seconds, the Sun reports.

The road to get here wasn’t easy for the 16-7 Minutemen, who bested Boston Latin, 63-56 in the first round and eeked out a 64-62 win over Westford Academy in the quarterfinals before earning the win over A-B in the semis.

Their opponent, Charlestown, blew out Andover, outlasted East Boston and overcame Central Catholic, the tournament’s top seed, to earn a berth in the finals.

Tip-off’s at 6 p.m. tomorrow, March 10, at the Tsongas Center in Lowell.
