On Oct. 8, a beautiful Saturday in Lexington, Minuteman High School had Homecoming Day with many enjoyable activities such as cross country, boys’ and girls’ soccer games and a football game.

John Donato, athletic director for the Minuteman Mustangs, wanted it to be a special occasion, so he decided to have Homecoming Day dedicated to Team Molly, which was created in memory of Molly Eisenberg, a remarkable student athlete from Lexington.

Molly, who attended Lexington High School, lost her battle with ovarian cancer at 19 in 2009.  “Our school is a proud member of Team Molly and I felt it was a nice time to celebrate her memory and promote ovarian cancer awareness,” said Donato.

Mustang athletes wore teal athletic gear from shoe laces to sweat bands to represent the official color of ovarian cancer awareness and the cross-country team wore Team Molly t-shirts.  Minuteman High School graduate Larry Sullivan, Class of 1984, donated a pair of Bruins tickets that were raffled off, with all proceeds going to Ovarian Cancer Awareness in Molly’s name. The raffle raised $100.

Minuteman High’s soccer teams had great games but came up short. The girls’ team lost a squeaker at the end, 3-2, against Randolph High. The boys’ team also lost to Randolph. The boys’ varsity football team defeated Cape Cod Tech, 28-0.

The entire day was a success, and as Team Molly says, “We are all one team.”
