The seven seniors on Lexington High School’s girls lacrosse team had much to celebrate on Tuesday afternoon.

The Minutemen sprang out to a 3-0 lead against the Red Devils as senior captains Diana Hines and Meghan McNabb and classmate Amanda Bouchard buried shots from in close to the crease.

Lexington allowed Burlington to come within two goals, at 3-1, on Burlington’s first score at 22:51 in the first. But that was as close as the Red Devils would get all game long.

Jean Hanafin and Carissa Healy each scored twice for Burlington, while Jodi Han and Kat Trahan had one goal apiece.

It wasn’t much of an even matchup between the Middlesex League teams, especially in the first half, as Lexington outscored Burlington 10-4 after the game’s first four goals to go up 13-5.

Hines scored three times in that stretch. First, on a penalty shot at 22:04, then on a run up the middle at 12:23 and final coming with 29 seconds remaining before the break.

McNabb also caught fire before halftime. She tossed in her second goal, Lexington’s fifth, at 20:44. Then, at 14:06 she ran, once again, up the field, weaving her way around Red Devils and in front of the crease for the goal. And at 13:11 she scored with a spinning move.

Bouchard netted in her second goal at 19:12 and senior Bridget Everett nabbed the Minutemen’s 10th goal at 11:36 on a penalty.

Lexington added its 11th and 12th goals at 7:16 and 4:26, respectively, putting the team up by seven goals going into the second half.

Burlington played with more force in the second, but still the young team struggled against Lexington’s veterans. The Red Devils were able to get through Lexington’s goalie just once in the final 25 minutes of play, scoring at 12:36.

Hines put in Lexington’s 14th goal at 15:54, the team’s 15th went into the net at 15:01, senior captain Catherine Dugan scored her first goal of the game at 8:53, increasing Lexington’s lead to 10 goals, and the Minutemen’s 17th and final goal was scored at 7:11 by senior Victoria Chan.

The big win over Burlington was a nice rebound for the team after Lexington fell to Woburn 8-6 on Monday afternoon. The Minutemen were up 3-2 at halftime, but the Tanners scored five goals in the first seven minutes of the second half to take the lead and ultimately pull away.
