Parking Problems, Anyone?

The Lexington Lions Club's annual Fourth of July Carnival and the July 3 fireworks drew large crowds, but did parking on side streets cause problems?

The Fourth of July holiday and associated long weekend was lots of fun for lots of people.

Here in Lexington, the Lions Club’s carnival and a July 3 fireworks display drew large crowds to Hastings Park and the center fields. According to at least one local, the mass carnival-goers and fireworks-watchers created problematic parking conditions on side streets in the surrounding areas.

Twitter user @LUNCHboxHarry posted a series of tweets about the situation, saying many side streets were “impassable due to parking,” making for a dangerous situation around Hastings and Baskin roads.

Patch was at the carnival and fireworks Wednesday night, and had no issues getting out of the area by car. The streets were crowded with vehicles and pedestrians, but no more than would be expected at the conclusion of a large event.
