PHOTOS: 4th of July Carnival Opens Tonight; Watch Hastings Park Morph

The Lexington Lions Club's annual Fourth of July Carnival opens at 6 p.m. today, July 3, but the equipment arrived Sunday took shape on Monday at Hastings Park.

Autobots they are not, but carnival rides came together pretty quickly on Monday, July 2, as transformed into the . 

The carnival, which runs through this Saturday, July 7, will be slightly smaller than in years past, a result of its relocation across Worthen Road due to fields work at the . However, a Fiesta Shows rep on-site Monday said the workers and rides were adapting well to the new digs. 

It's unclear exactly which rides or attractions were lost to the relocation, but many popular rides have returned from past years, including Freak Out, Vertigo, Tilt-a-Whirl and, of course, the carousel. Notably absent will be the Ferris wheel, which the rep said has to do with the purchase of a new one that hasn't yet arrived.

Back when the Board of Selectmen approved the relocation in early June, Public Works Director Bill Hadley said .

“We’ve done it for many years,” Hadley said, referring to carnivals held across the street without permanently damaging the recreation complex grounds, “And it’s come back OK.”

Although the carnival itself has shifted to Hastings Park, a few popular attractions remain on the other side of Worthen Road. Tommorw morning's free youth games will be held inside the track next to the , which is where the fireworks will be shot off the evening of Thursday, July 5.
