What Are You Reading This Summer?

Lexington's Cary Memorial Library is offering a summer reading program for adults that lets you decide your own reading list.

Cary Memorial Library’s first-ever Summer Reading Program for adults kicked off earlier this month, inviting locals to read, recommend and even win weekly prizes.

The program eschews the typical “summer reading list” format in favor of a completely customizable model designed to develop a localized list from what participants are actually reading.

From a Cary Library notice:

“To participate, just read a book, any book, and then fill out a short review form. Review forms are available at the library, and include a space for the title, author and short comment. Completed forms are then posted on the library’s Adult Summer Reading bulletin board.”

If you’re looking for recommendations, the bulletin board will be posted near the library’s circulation desk, librarians will be ready with suggestions and program participants will have access to library displays and the Novelist database.

With each completed review, Adult Summer Reading participants earn a chance to enter weekly price drawings, for the chance to win book totes, gift certificates and other exciting items – including the grand price of an Amazon Kindle, which will be awarded at the end of the program.

Cary Memorial Library’s first-ever Adult Summer Reading program runs from July 1 through Aug. 23. For more information, check out Cary Library’s website.

In the meantime, we want to know: What are you reading this summer? Share your titles and recommendations in the comment section.
