Monday Essentials: History of Abigail Adam's Garden, Presentation of Puff the Magic Dragon

Five things to know about this week.

Welcome to Monday Essentials, our weekly column taking a look at the week ahead. Here are five things to know about this week:

1) Cold mid week but otherwise warmer 

Looks like a mixed bag of weather this week. According to the National Weather Service we can expect rain on Monday but a high temperature near 48 degrees. Tuesday will be very windy cold with a temperature near 17 degrees and with gusts around 37 miles per hour and windchill values near -3. It will clear mid-week but daytime temperatures will be in the 20s. It will be back up in the 40s this weekend. 

2) Public meetings 

The Board of Selectmen is meeting on Monday at 7 p.m. in the Town Office Building, Selectmen's Meeting Room. The School Committee is meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Town Office Building, Selectmen's Meeting Room. The Board of Appeals is meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Town Office Building, Selectmen's Meeting Room. Click here for a full list of meetings.

3) Lego engineerings 

Empow Studios is holding a Lego Engineering program at 5 p.m. on Tuesday for students in grades 3-5. "Take your Lego building to the next level," the event post states. "Lego swing rides, golf-putters, and swamp boats are just a few of the awesome projects for students to build as they learn about the principles of construction and engineering. After building the initial project, students can modify their creations and motorize their devices with hand-powered generators or direct drives. LEGO models will not be taken home but photos from the class will be available for download.

4) Garden presentation 

Lexington Field and Garden Club presents “Abigail’s Garden: The History of a New England Garden” by Laurie Ellen Pazzano, a landscape historian, on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum and Library. Through this talk, they will explore one of the Great American gardens at the Old House at the Adams National Historical Park, Quincy, MA. Learn about the rich history and hidden horticultural secrets from its creation, through four generations of the Adams family ownership, and up to the present day. Click here for more information.

5)  Puff the Magic Dragon 

There will be a musical presentation of Puff the Magic Dragon at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Cary Memorial Library. The presentation, which is part of the Cambridge Savings Bank Musical Storytelling Program, is for children of all ages. Click here for more information
