Five things to know about the week ahead.

Welcome to Monday Essentials, our weekly column taking a look at the week ahead. Here are five things to know about this week:

1) Cold week ahead

Looks like a wintery week in store for us. According to the National Weather Service we can expect temperatures in the teens throughout the week, only raising to the low 30s on Saturday. Overnight temperatures will be in the single digits.

2) Public meetings

The School Committee is meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Town Office Building- Selectmen Meeting Room. The Planning Board is meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday in the Town Office Building- Selectmen Meeting Room. Click here for a complete list of public meetings.

3) Pajama party

SteveSongs Pajama Party Concerts return for the 13th year to Temple Emunah. "Come clad in your most stylin' jammies and dancing slippers and get ready to move and groove to the family friendly music of acclaimed SteveSongs," the event post states. "Concerts feature Steve along with his rockin band. Yummy peanut-free treats available throughout the concerts, as well as raffle tickets for great prizes." Click here for more information and times

4) Mystery and Suspense Writing

Lexington High School's Community Education program is hosting a six-part Introduction to Mystery and Suspense Writing starting on Wednesday. The classes will be led by author Andrew McAleer. Click here for more information.

5) Stop Motion Animation Workshop

Empow Studios, 1776 Massachusetts Ave Lexington, is holding a stop-animation class on Friday at 3:45 p.m for children in grades 1 to 2.

"Bring your story to life. Students develop their appreciation for great story-telling by developing and filming their own stop-motion movies," the event post states. "Children work in pairs to create their own stories using elements of plot, setting, rising action, conflict, and resolution. Once characters and backgrounds are made, students use computers, webcams and special software to bring their stories to life! Movies are available to take home. Non-violence policy is enforced."
