5 Things to Do Around Lexington: Outdoor Jazz, Back to the '80s, West Side Story

Not skipping town this summer weekend?
Here are some things to do right in your neck of the woods.
- The Lexington Youth Summer Theatre puts on West Side Story, with shows Thursday through Sunday at Lexington High School
- Head nearby to Waltham and check out the classic '80s movie the Goonies, showing on the big screen outside at the Lynn Estate on Thursday night.
- Saturday, at Waxy O'Connor's in Lexington, Back to the '80s does that. This band plays the ultimate dance hits from the ultimate decade of decadence. From Rick Springfield to Michael Jackson, every song is an instantly recognizable hit guaranteed to get audiences on their feet and celebrating. The show starts at 9 p.m.
- The Lexington Chamber of Commerce brings back its summer concert series, with a show on Friday, July 18. This weekend features contemporary jazz by Jazz in the Air and the free show starts at 6:30 p.m. Bring a blanket or a chair and sit on the lawn at the Visitors Center on Mass. Ave.
- On Sunday, July 20, park ranger Polly Kienle presents "If These Walls Could Speak" at the Minuteman Visitor Center at 3 p.m. She traces how Jacob Whittemore's family grew and changed by using original documents in the show.
