Monday, May 14 10:37 a.m. – Police responded to a reported residential breaking-and-entering on Lowell Street. Sandra Abboud, 52, of 27 Fox Meadow Lane, Arlington, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering in the daytime with the intent to commit a felony.  1:03 p.m. – A vehicle reportedly struck a pedestrian on Bedford Street. 6:21 p.m. – As a result of a motor vehicle accident on Bedford Street, Eldred C. LFD and Lexington Elks Install Alarms for Local Seniors (PHOTOS)

Smoke detectors and Carbon Monoxide alarms were installed in the homes of several Lexington seniors courtesy of the Lexington Fire Department and Lexington Lodge of Elks.

The following was provided by the Lexington Fire Department. The Fire Department, with support from the Lexington Lodge of Elks #2204, installed smoke alarms in several homes of seniors living in Lexington at no cost to them this past Saturday.  “Funding for the program was received by a grant of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the U.S., designed to have local Lodges impact the community they serve,” saidChristopher Cavanaugh, president of the Lexington Lodge.   This pilot program supplied new battery-operated smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to local seniors. Lt. Tremblay, the LFD's Fire Prevention Inspector, and Human Services Director Charlotte Rodgers coordinated the program, and each deemed it a success.  “In …

Friday, May 11 6:14 a.m. – Officers investigated motor vehicle accident in the area of Woburn and Lowell Streets. 8:46 a.m. – A suspicious person was reported on Chestnut Lane. 11:41 a.m. – An April Lane resident reported a breaking-and-entering to a motor vehicle. 10:22 a.m. – A noise complaint came in from Park Drive. Saturday, May 12 8:52 a.m. – Police responded to a reported hit and run accident with property damage on Mass Ave. 12:59 p.m. – A parking complaint came in from the Meriam-Oakland street area. 5:21 p.m. – A bicyclist was struck by a motor vehicle in the area of Marrett Road and Spring Street. Arlington Woman Arrested After Alleged B-and-E in East Lexington

A 52-year-old woman is accused of breaking into the residence adjacent to Busa Farms.

An Arlington woman was arrested earlier today, May 14, after allegedly entering a home next door to Busa Farms in East Lexington. According to a police report, officers responded to a Lowell Street residence for a reported housebreak and found a man arguing with an unknown woman he allegedly found inside his home. The woman, later identified as Sandra Abboud, 52, of 27 Fox Meadow Lane, Arlington, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering in the daytime with the intent to commit a felony.  The man and woman reportedly first exchanged words as she looked at flowers outside the Busa Farms farmstand, but he only involved the police after finding her inside his home, in the hallway area between the side entrance and kitchen. Secure Communities Program To Launch Next Week

Program intended to help catch illegal immigrants.

The Secure Communities Program, which would impact illegal immigrants, will go into effect next week in Massachusetts. According to the Boston Globe, the controversial federal program will start next Tuesday, May 15. The program requires law enforcement officers to run finger prints of arrested individuals through an federal databases to determine whether they are in the country illegally. Federal immigration authorities could then arrest the suspect and possibly deport them. The start of the program, which Boston has been participating in since 2008, comes in the wake of recent developments in the case of Blanca Contreras, an illegall immigrant accused of hitting and killing a Waltham man while drive last year. LFD, Lodge of Elks Teaming Up to Install Free Smoke Alarms

If you're a Lexington resident whose home was built prior to 1975 and has or had battery operated smoke alarms, you are encouraged to apply.

The Lexington Fire Department and the Lexington Lodge of Elks #2204 are pleased to announce a new joint program to install smoke alarms in homes of seniors living in Lexington at no cost. The installation is scheduled for this Saturday, May 12. Having a properly operating and maintained smoke alarm in your home reduces the chancing of being injured or dying in a fire by nearly 90 percent. However, nearly half the homes in the United States do not have smoke alarms or they are not properly maintained (missing or dead batteries for example).  National statistics have shown older adults have a much higher risk of being injured or dying in a fire.  Through this program we hope to reduce that risk too in homes of Lexington older adults. “The …

Alleged Thieves Caught Med-Handed

Three men are facing multiple charges, including larceny and conspiracy, after they were allegedly caught stealing from one pharmacy and attempting to return the product to another.

Three alleged thieves with a shared address in Stoneham were arrested over the weekend after reportedly pilfering product from one local pharmacy and attempting to return it to another. According to a police incident report, the attempted scheme played out around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, and resulted in the arrest of three men on multiple charges, including larceny, conspiracy and attempting to commit a crime.
