The Waldorf School of Lexington (WSL), preschool to grade 8, was founded in 1971 by a group of Cambridge parents, TheMore school purchased the former Adams Elementary School in 1982, the same year that it graduated its first class of 8th graders. The campus is situated between Massachusetts Avenue and the 185-acre Great Meadow. As part of the Waldorf model of education, teachers at the school stay with the same students as they progress from 1st grade through graduation. WSL also offers nursery, kindergarten and after-school programs.

Homespun is located within the Waldorf School at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Pleasant Street, and isMore accessible from the left side of the main building. The store, which has been in business for about 20 years, is a non-profit (501c3) run by parent volunteers. All proceeds from the toys, candles, crafts and other gifts for sale go back to the school. Homespun's inventory includes some items made by Lexington residents and it is the sole vendor of supplies for making "Waldorf dolls" for workshops taught at the school.
