Memorial Day Weekend Traffic in Real Time

From Memorial Day parades to holiday fender benders, this live map shows delays and diversions on Boston area roads right now.

If you're on a mobile device, click here to view the map. When you're done getting gas and packing the car, check out the live results from MapQuest above to see what's standing between you and the start of your three-day weekend. Mapquest scans for parade routes, ongoing construction, block parties and traffic jams. If your route is green, your good. If it's red, you may be headed into a line of rubbernecking fools. Good luck!

Discovery Day Postponed

With cold and wet weather in the forecast for tomorrow, May 25, the decision has been made to postpone the annual event to next Saturday, June 1.

The Discovery Day Committee has decided to postpone Discovery Day until next Saturday, June 1. The annual street fair/sidewalk sale -- this year's lineup boasts more than 80 of Lexington’s local businesses, groups and organizations -- was scheduled to be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow, May 25, in the Muzzey/Waltham street municipal lot behind Michelson's Shoes. However, with weathermen warning of a cold and wet day that could feel more like March than May, the Discovery Day Committee opted to postpone the event until next Saturday, June 1, at the same time and location. According to the National Weather Service, the forecast for Saturday includes a 70 percent chance of showers and daytime highs unlikely to climb above 55. Though …

Sheriff Koutoujian Moves a Step Closer to Run for Congress

The campaign committee called “Koutoujian for Congress” allows the candidate to raise money for a campaign and hire campaign staff.

Middlesex County Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian announced Thursday that he is opening a Congressional campaign committee account. The move is a serious indication that Koutoujian will run for U.S. Congress if Congressman Edward Markey wins the U.S. Senate special election next month. "I have dedicated my life to working on issues important to the people I have been honored to represent as a legislator and now as Sheriff.  If given the opportunity, I intend to fight for the people of the 5th Congressional district as their representative in Washington," said Koutoujian. "Throughout my career, I have focused on guaranteeing access to quality, affordable health care, enacting common sense measures to strengthen our economy, ensuring public …

Survey Says: Lexington Center’s a Shopping and Dining Destination

But improved parking and more independent/specialty stores are desired.

As part of the Lexington Center Committee’s ongoing effort to figure out how to keep the town center vibrant and viable, the committee engaged a group of Bentley University undergrads to study the downtown central business district. Part of the students’ study was a 23-question survey made available to Lexington residents and others who visit the center, asking about their likes and dislikes about suburban downtowns in general and Lexington’s specifically.  About 700 respondents completed the survey, about 89 percent were Lexington residents and 77 percent were women, according to the LCC. “The survey validated some things,” said Jerry Michelson, chairman of the Center Committee. “Some of the information is things we’ve heard anecdotally…

Nationwide, gas prices were predicted to be lower this summer compared to the last three years, but that won't translate into savings at the pump this Memorial Day weekend, experts said. "Motorists this year are facing rising gas prices heading into the Memorial Day holiday," said Michael Green, a AAA spokesman, adding that Memorial Day 2013 would probably be the most expensive since 2011.  In past years, prices have declined heading into early summer as oil refineries produced more gasoline to meet expected summer driving demand. This year, though, Midwest refineries haven't…
