Reasons to Celebrate.

This morning, Lexington Historical Society's Executive Director Susan Bennett and I spoke about the society’s party this Friday night at the Depot. “It’s basically a big birthday party with cake and punch,” Susan said, adding that everyone is welcome. “We see it as a 'Thank you' to the community for its support.” I asked Susan for just a few examples of the society’s most notable efforts. “I think that one thing that people do not see is the care of our collections and our archives,” Susan said. “Over the past seven years particularly we’ve devoted an incredible amount of time and energy to cataloguing our collection, housing them in more appropriate storage and most notably refurbishing our archives at the Hancock-Clarke House and …

Lexington Historical Society Hosts a Party Friday Night.

The Lexington Historical Society is holding a party at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening at Lexington Depot to celebrate its 125th anniversary and everyone is invited.   Lexington may thank two forward-thinking reverends for the society's founding. It started n 1886 when Rev. Edward G. Porter and Rev. Carlton A. Staples issued a joint statement to Lexington residents. “Dear Sir; It is proposed to form a Society in Lexington, for Historical (sic) research and study, in matters connected with the history of the town, and of families and individuals who have been identified with it; also for suitably commemorating from year to year, by appropriate services, the great event which has rendered the town forever memorable in the annals of our country – …
