Looking Back on 2011: Six Feel-Good Stories

Carnival Opens Early for Good Cause [VIDEO] Each year, before the public pours through its gates the Lexington Lions Club opens its annual Fourth of July Carnival to a couple hundred special guests – children and young adults from the Perkins School, the Carroll Center for the Blind and the Cotting School, along with their family members. Looking Back on 2011: Fab Five Favorite Photos of the Year

There is simply no way to include all of the outstanding images captured and posted on Lexington Patch in 2011. From holidays to storms to feel-good features that warm the heart, there has no shortage of powerful photography from local photographers, freelancers and you, our readers.  So, in deciding our five favorite photos from 2011, we tried to going to stick to that old adage that a picture's worth 1,000 words and selected images that themselves tell the story. Meetings, classroom execution and an award-winning director today in Lexington.

Beth Murphy, director of the award-winning documentary, "Beyond Belief," will be at Cary Memorial Library tonight at 7 p.m. to discuss the making of her film, which follows the journey of Patti Quigley and Susan Retik, widows who lost their husbands in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2011 and dedicated their lives to Afghan women widowed by terrorism. 2. Pretty busy public meeting lineupposted for today. The Historic District Commission is meeting at 7 p.m., while the Commission on Disability meets at 5:45 p.m. and and Education Collabortive for Greater Boston meets at 10 a.m. in Waltham. 3.
