It’s odd to write about an event or committee when you’re a member. Some would say an objective viewpoint goes right out the window. Well, that's true. It does. I belong to an impressive group who is bent on creating the most memorable 300th birthday party ever – or at least something to tide us over until the 400th. We belong to the Lexington’s 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee and two nights ago we went before the Board of Selectmen. During the first ½ hour I jotted notes for Tuesday’s column and then it was the committee’s turn to make a presentation and tell the selectmen our plans for the nine-month celebration that starts in September 2012 and ends in May 2013. One year at a time ...
Tomorrow is actually today's update! More than just food was donated to the May 7 walk and run for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Massage therapists, Sonja Rosberg Lee and Regine Ryder, from Lexington Health Collaborative on Bedford Street, donated their time and talent from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sonja is familiar with the devastation of ALS after losing a church friend to the disease 18 months ago. She and Regine soothed the bodies – and probably the soul too – of a dozen or more runners who needed a little TLC. The women held a drawing for two unnamed winners who will receive a full body massage at the Bedford Street office. Sonja plans on supporting this and similar events in the future.
