Lots going on this weekend in Lexington, including many low-cost options for keeping it local. There's the three-day A Taste of Greece Festival that kicked off today at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, and the free "Flags of Fort Sumter: National Symbolism in the Civil War" program tomorrow afternoon at the National Heritage Museum. Also tomorrow, the Lexington Symphony opens its season at Cary Hall and there's a Jazz Café/Art Gallery Reception at Grace Chapel. That's not even getting into the smattering of yard sales happening around town (we'll have a complete list of those tomorrow). Five Things You Need to Know Today: Sept. 16

It's all Greek at St. Nicholas and there's a concert on the Green today in Lexington.

1. Get a Taste of Greece today at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church on Meriam Street.  At 11:30 a.m. begins a three-day festival featuring Greek food, Greek music, Greek dancing and a new-this-year gyro station. 2. The Lexington High School football team travels to Concord-Carlisle tonight in search of their first win of the 2011 season; kickoff is at 7 p.m. LHS girls varsity volleyball hosts Reading at 4 p.m. at Lexington High School. 3. A Taste of Greece, A Festival of Flavors!

We’re proud of the many cultures in town. And, in a few weeks we’ll celebrate another ethnic part of town. St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church is holding A Taste of Greece, A Festival of Flavors at its Meriam Street church on Sept. 16, 17 and 18. “We do it every other year,” said Mary Correia speaking from the church offices. It’s been going on for decades, she said. Entrance is free and everything is Greek – including the bands and folk dance performances. There are also children’s activities and tours of the church. Bring money to buy authentic Greek food, which includes spanakopita, beef or chicken souvlaki, rice pilaf, moussaka, dolmades and pastitsio, a traditional favorite of baked macaroni mixed with beef and spices and a fresh layer…
