Seven days of events encouraging locals to look past the standard 'planes, trains and automobiles' and celebrating alternative options like Lexpress, walking paths and the Minuteman Bikeway.
Next Sunday begins Lexington’s first-ever “Bike Walk ‘n Bus Week,” featuring seven days of events and activities meant to celebrate and promote the alternative transportation options available here in town. From May 5 through May 11, a schedule of events ranging from power walks to an Amazing Revolutionary Race to a charity bike ride for Neighbor Brigade, aim to turn residents’ attention toward the Lexington’s bike paths, public transportation options and 94 miles of sidewalk as viable alternatives to a car when it comes to getting around town. “The overall purpose of the event is to celebrate the many alternative transportation resources we have available in town,” explained Jeanette Rebecchi, the town’s transportation services …

Professional and trails networks intertwine in the newly established Rick Abrams ACROSS Lexington Trust Fund.
There are networks, and then there are networks. For Lexington resident Rick Abrams, his professional and trails networks have intertwined in the best possible way. As his career in educational technology wound to an end, Abrams, who co-chairs Lexington’s Greenways Corridor Committee, was busy with a new project: Laying the foundation for ACROSS Lexington, a network of well-marked routes linking trails, schools and conservation land around town. Network of trails will promote alternative options for passive recreation and transportation.
There are good acronyms, and there are not so good acronyms. With ACROSS Lexington, the town's Greenways Corridor Committee believes it has a an acronym that's working out quite nicely. ACROSS stands for Accessing Conservation land, Recreation areas, Open space, Schools and Streets and it's the major initiative of the Greenways Corridor Committee. The goal is to create 40 miles of well marked walking/running/biking routes linking trails, schools and conservation land around town.
