State Police: 18-year-old Man killed while crossing 128 in Newton

State Police release new details in the crash this morning, which caused a backup in traffic along 128 and The Mass. Pike.

A pedestrian was struck and killed on Route 128 this morning near the Newton rest area, between Route 16 and Grove Street. He was in the median strip, and may have been struck while trying to cross the highway around 6:30 a.m. Just after 6:30 a.m. this morning, State Police say an 18-year-old man was killed while crossing Rte. 128 on foot. According to a press release just sent, he was hit by the car on the sorthbound side of the highway, and was thrown across the median onto the southbound side of the road, where he was hit by another vehicle. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Police say they are notifying his next-of-kin.  The accident backed up traffic on Rte. 128 and on the Mass. Pike. Update: As Hersch Family Recovers, Help Still Needed

The Lexington family injured in a serious accident earlier this month faces a lengthy road to recovery, but a helping hand from the community will go a long way.

It’s been nearly two weeks now since a Lexington family of four sustained serious injuries stemming from a Dec. 1 accident on I-95 in Walpole, and as the mother and son begin to bounce back, a toddler and father face still procedures still head. According to a family friend, both 5-year-old Ben and Jana, the mother, are recovering from their injuries and do not expect any further surgery. However, Greg, the father, will require another surgery on his foot next week and Sammy, the 15-month-old, is scheduled for a tracheotomy today at Children’s Hospital and still can’t move his arms, the family friend said in a statement provided to Patch. “Thank you so much for all the incredible support we have experienced in this difficult time for our …

A fund is being set up at Cambridge Trust Company to help the Hersch family as they begin to recover from injuries sustained in an accident last Saturday, Dec. 1, on I-95 in Walpole.

  A Lexington family of four sustained serious injuries in a terrible accident last weekend on I-95 in Walpole and, with their toddler facing a long road to recovery, the community is coming together to lend a hand. The Hersch family’s oldest son is enrolled at the Children’s Center of Lexington and the CCL community has pitched in to provide things like meals, shopping and play dates. But now that it appears that the family’s 15-month-old toddler will require pediatric rehabilitation he can’t get in Boston, a fund is being set up through Cambridge Trust Company to help cover escalating expenses, according to Sally Gordon, director of the Children’s Center of Lexington. PHOTOS: Car Falls Over Wall at Wilson Farm in Lexington

A woman was transported to Lahey Clinic with non-life-threatening injuries Friday, Oct. 12 after her vehicle toppled over a retaining wall in the parking lot at Wilson Farm in Lexington.

Quite a scene Friday afternoon at Wilson Farm, where a woman was injured after her car toppled over a retaining wall in the parking lot and landed on its roof in the field more than 10 feet below. The Lexington Police and Fire departments responded to the farm just after 1 p.m. Oct. 12, after multiple calls came in reporting an accident in the parking of the popular farmstand. The female driver, the vehicle's lone occupant, had to be pulled from the vehicle. She was transported to Lahey Clinic with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Lt. Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Accident

A Lexington man involved in a Thursday evening accident on Winchester Drive died early Friday morning, police said.

A Lexington man died early Friday morning following his involvement in a motor vehicle accident at Winchester Drive, near the Winchester line, Thursday evening, police said. According to the incident report, at 6:59 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2, Lexington Police responded to the intersection of Winchester Drive and Russell Road for reports of a motorcycle vs. motor vehicle accident. The motorcyclist was transported by Winchester Fire Department to Mass General Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, police said. The man’s name and information are being withheld pending proper notification, police said. The motorcycle was a Harley Davidson and the vehicle was a sedan, police said. The accident remains under investigation.

Police Continue Investigation of Pre-Holiday Accident

Lexington Police are continuing their investigation of a pre-Christmas crash that sent one woman to Lahey Clinic. According to a police report, at 10:31 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 23, police responded to a one-car collision in which a vehicle reportedly rolled over a female pedestrian in the parking lot of Wilson Farm. The woman was transported to Lahey Clinic with serious injuries.  With the farmstand busy with the holiday rush, LPD and members of the Massachusetts State Police's accident reconstruction team took over a portion of the parking lot for hours after the accident. Week in Review: Aug. 28 to Sept. 3

A tropical storm, the start of school, an SUV swallowed and more last week in Lexington.

This week got off to a roaring start as Tropical Storm Irene’s winds and rain wreaked havoc across Lexington, prompting 188 emergency calls and leaving many without power well into the week. So, that was Sunday. Monday was a chance for many folks to regroup after the storm, figure out what to do with storm debris and prepare for the start of school on Tuesday for the most students in the Lexington Public Schools and Minuteman Career and Technical High School. If the start of the 2011-2012 school year wasn’t enough, Tuesday morning saw quite a scene play out on Lowell Street, where an SUV was swallowed by a sink hole after its driver cracked a telephone pole, bounced back into a hydrant, causing flooding and compromising the ground.
