What Now for the 'Muster on the Battle Green" Pro-Second Amendment Rally?

Gun Rights Across America: Massachusetts will ship out west for its April 19 rally after Lexington officials suspended public assembly privileges in light of the regional response to Boston Marathon Bombing.

Go west, gun rights advocates. That's the message from Gun Rights Across America: Massachusetts after Lexington's Board of Selectmen voted Tuesday night to suspend the group's permit to rally on the Battle Green this Friday and issue a two-week moratorium on public assemblies on the green and at Tower Park. According to the event's page on Facebook, the Muster On The Battle Green, originally scheduled to be held from 12 to 4 p.m. on April 19 in Lexington, is being relocated to West Springfield "due to a permit revocation by the Lexington BoS." The message also provides this link to where the rally is moving: https://www.facebook.com/events/2134859999986588/?ref=2. For those who miss that announcement, according to a post to the …

Aron, April 19th is once per year. The green is unique as it is THE PLACE the revolution against a tyrannical government began. And though you didn't ask me I will answer your question: if the pulled permit had been for a group supporting gun control or some other cause with which you disagreed, would you be crying the same crocodile tears? Well I didn't cry, but I do defend others right to speak…   more ›

In Lexington, a Moratorium on Public Assemblies After Boston Marathon Bombing

With a pro-gun rally on the books for this Friday, April 19, Lexington’s Board of Selectmen Tuesday approved a two-week moratorium on public assemblies in historically significant places.

Time and place: The same factors that made April 19 in Lexington so attractive for the rally were also responsible for the suspension of a permit allowng Gun Rights Across America: Massacusetts to hold its “Muster on the Battle Green” here this Friday. In an emergency meeting, Lexington's Board of Selectmen on Tuesday unanimously approved a moratorium on public events at the Battle Green and Tower Park, essentially delaying by at least two weeks the previously permitted pro-Second Amendment gun rally scheduled to take place there on the 238th anniversary of the start of the American Revolution.  That decision came barely 24 hours after a pair of explosions—later identified by President Obama, as an act of terrorism—claimed three lives …

And you, Aron, are the King of Sarcasm. I bow to your superiority. I guess I might have been a little sarcastic myself.b And, I apologize for offending you, didn't mean to, just wanted to be a part of the conversation. Just a little bit puzzled tho that you would think that I am after you for anything, I responded to you in particular, because of your responses to others over their ideas. Maybe I…   more ›

Lexington Selectmen Bid Farewell to George Burnell (VIDEO)

At his last meeting as a member of the Board of Selectmen George Burnell promised ‘I’m not going too far away.’

It might be said that Monday night marked the end of an era, but that would be lazy. And being lazy isn’t necessarily part of the plans for George Burnell, the town government fixture leaving the Board of Selectmen after completing two terms. In sending off their colleague on Feb. 25, the selectmen did not say “goodbye” to Burnell, rather they thanked him for his service to date and said they look forward to working with him in the future – as an appointee to one or more other town boards. To hear what the selectmen and Burnell had to say, check out the videos posted to your right. First up was Selectman Norm Cohen, who noted Burnell’s past service including turns on Lexington’s Capital Expenditures and Appropriation committees and his …
