While riders on the MBTA are currently facing potential fare increase, drivers across the state are now dealing with even higher gas prices. The price per gallon of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline rose three cents during the past week, according to a Boston Herald report Monday. It's the third week in a row drivers have had to pay more for gas. The average current price per gallon for unleaded is $3.79, a rise of six cents from last month. The average price this time last year was $3.56. The good news, however, is that the current price in Massachusetts is still 13 cents below the national average of $3.92, according to the Boston Herald.
