Motorist Charged for Role in Lexington School Bus Crash

Accident occurred Friday, March 1.

A Lincoln woman has been cited for multiple motor vehicle violations following her role in a March 1 accident involving a Lexington school bus.  According to the Lexington Police Department, the woman—who was transported to Lahey Clinic with non-life threatening injuries immediately following the crash—has been cited for marked lanes and turning violations. The accident occurred around 8:15 a.m. on Friday, March 1, when the woman allegedly made an illegal turn on the ramp between Route 2 and Spring Street in Lexington. Three Bridge Elementary School students were transported to Emerson Hospital as a precautionary measure after the accident, and were reunited with their parents shortly thereafter, the Lexington Public Schools said, via …

Concerns Continue Around Level 3 Sex Offender Hanging Around Town

Sightings around schools and soccer fields are unsettling to some, but police say the Waltham man has served his time and has the right to be here.

In response to frequent inquires and sightings of a Level 3 sex offender in various places around town, Lexington Police recently circulated the Waltham man’s detail flyer to Lexington Center businesses, schools, the town’s Recreation Department and other organizations. Reported sightings of William Lafauci around Center Field prompted the Lexington United Soccer Club to include a note about it in a Sept. 15 memo about player safety. And then on Tuesday, the Bridge School's PTA sent an email to parents reporting Lafauci approached two kids on their way to Bridge Elementary School, WBZ reported Sept. 25. Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story attributed the letter to the Lexington Public Schools. That has been corrected after Patch…

POLL: What's Your Take on Concord's Bottle Ban?

Take our poll or share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Those crazy cats in Concord have gone and fired another shot heard 'round the bottled beverage world. By 39 votes, the third session of Concord's annual Town Meeting last night voted to approve a bottled water bylaw that bans the sale of unflavored, nonsparkling drinking water in single-serving polyethylene terephthalate (PET) water bottles of less than 1 liter (34 ounces).  The town's been down this road before. In 2010, Concord Town Meeting voted in support of a similar ban, but that one was tossed out by the Attorney General because it was written as a resultion and had no teeth to it. Petitioner Jean Hill's second attempt to ban bottled water, in 2011, failed by seven votes. This time around, enforcement provisions were written into …

I don't believe that it will push people to Soda or sugar-based beverages at all. When most people go out to lunch, rarely are they ever seen having water, and if they do it's mostly from the pitcher the retailer has out for customers. Most costumers buy sugar-based beverages when they go out to lunch anyway because it's not something they can access from anywhere or at home, like water. People …   more ›

Traffic Plan for Estabrook's Construction Phase Moves Forward

It appears Grove Street will remain the access road during construction.

Cars and construction vehicles will most likely access Estabrook Elementary School off Grove Street, not Robinson Road, while the new school is being built. The School Committee unanimously agreed to move forward with such a plan Tuesday, a week after the Estabrook School Access Ad Hoc Task Force unanimously backed the same plan, which was developed by architects at Boston-based DiNisco Design. “We heard from our architects that Robinson Road is not a practical entranceway for construction vehicles,” Superintendent Paul Ash said at Tuesday’s meeting in the Town Office Building. Ash said it would take at least one year, maybe two, to upgrade Robinson Road, which runs behind the school, to a suitable level for construction vehicles, and …

Selectmen Sign Warrant for Special Town Meeting

On Wednesday, the Board of Selectmen officially set the upcoming special Town Meeting for Monday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will address the Bridge and Bowman school reconstruction projects.

A day after the School Committee formally requested a special Town Meeting to address the Bridge and Bowman school reconstruction projects, the Board of Selectmen signed the warrant, officially setting the meeting for Monday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. The selectmen did so at Wednesday evening’s “Budget Collaboration – Financial Summit 1,” the first in a series of meetings where the Selectmen, School Committee, Capital Expenditures Committee and Appropriation Committee come together with town and school officials to discuss the upcoming budget process and overall financial climate of the town. Although no specific dollar amount will be used in the warrant question – Town Meeting members will only be asked if they want to fund the project – the …

Bridge School Gets Green With Waste Free Fridays

School's PTA helps kids cut their lunchtime waste by recycling, reducing and reusing.

Last Friday, students at the Bridge School were challenged to see how low they could go. And there was not a limbo pole in sight. No, it was a special edition of “Waste Free Fridays,” an initiative of the Parent Teacher Association’s Eco-Bridge committee, which has been working for five years to reduce waste at the elementary school.  At Waste Free Fridays, parent volunteers help students recycle, encourage use of reusable containers and compost food waste, in an effort to show the students how much they can cut back on waste with just a little bit of effort. “We’re learning all about what we can recycle and what we can compost,” said Logan Wells, a fifth-grader at Bridge. “There’s a lot of stuff. It’s amazing how much you can recycle.” …
