Week in Review, Nov. 13 to 19

A look back at the week that was in Lexington.

‘Twas a busy week from start to finish here in Lexington, from the bank robbery and Town Meeting on Monday through an eventful weekend that included a high school play and Penguin Lady lecture. Around 11 a.m. last Monday morning, police say a thin white male walked into the People’s United Bank on Bedford Street, passed a note to the teller and walked out with an undisclosed amount of money. By Wednesday, video surveillance images of the suspect were up on the Mass Most Wanted website and police were circulating the image in hopes someone from another agency or the public would be able to help identifying the unknown male. Also on Monday, a special session of Town Meeting approved a $21.67 million appropriation for the Bridge and Bowman …

Future Plans for Robinson Road and Public Art Dominate Estabrook Update (PHOTOS)

Residents and Estabrook School community members were concerned about issues other than educational space during the School Committee's hearing on Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Educational space was the least of concerns Tuesday night at the School Committee's meeting to discuss developing plans to rebuild Estabrook Elementary School. Rather, future plans for Robinson Road and the Estabrook mural were the most frequently asked questions last night at Cary Hall. And Estabrook parents and neighbors also weighed in on topics like play space, exterior design and how building construction will affect existing PCB mitigation procedures. Plans are still very preliminary at this point, officials said, and the architects and School Committee work toward plans to present to the Massachusetts School Building Authority and a special town election this January and Town Meeting this spring. Questions about Robinson Road …

Morning Minutes from Last Night's Town Meeting (PHOTOS)

A rundown of articles taken up at tonight's special Town Meeting in Lexington, with a bit on what they asked, what happened and what it means.

Questions and nay votes were in short supply last night at Cary Hall as a special Town Meeting worked through six articles in less than two hours, supporting a $21.67 million appropriation for a renovation project for the Bridge and Bowman elementary schools and an upgraded fire communications system, among other items. Article 1: Reports of Town Boards, Officers, Committees What it asked: Nothing, really. This is a chance for any town board, officer or committee can report to the Town Meeting. What happened: Committee members filed reports and School Committee Chairwoman Mary Ann Stewart used this time to update Town Meeting members on the Estabrook School project, including why it’s needed, the status with the Massachusetts School …

Town Meeting Backs Bridge and Bowman Renovations

Via voice vote, Lexington Town Meeting approved funding for renovations to extend the useful lives of the Bridge and Bowman elementary schools in a special session held Monday, Nov. 14.

Questions and opposition were scarce Monday night as a special session of Lexington Town Meeting voted in favor of funding a $21.67 million project to renovate the Bridge and Bowman elementary schools. The Nov. 14 vote was the second time Town Meeting has supported the Bridge and Bowman project, as $1,030,000 of the $22.7 million total project cost was appropriated in a prior session. Now, members of the schools community will focus their efforts on getting the project passed at the polls this January at a special town election, which could also see a debt exclusion request for more than $37 million for a new Estabrook School after the Massachusetts School Building Authority agreed to work with the town to rebuild after last year's …
