Lock 'Em Up: Thieves Targeting Unlocked Garages in Lexington

The Lexington Police Department is investigating a pair of reported car-breaks that occurred inside unlocked residential garages last week in Lexington.

Police in Lexington are reminding residents to lock the doors -- to their homes, their cars and their garages -- after a handful of cars were broken into and burglarized last week, despite being parked in garages. The morning of Tuesday, Dec. 13, Lexington Police responded to a pair of calls reporting a handful of unlocked cars, parked in unlocked garages, were broken into overnight. According to a police report, three vehicles were burglarized at a Hill Street residence after someone allegedly entered a garage through an unlocked side door. Missing from one of the vehicles was $125 cash, a gold wedding band and a watch, while another was missing a purse filled with credit cards, police said. Lexington Police Pinch Pepperell Man for Attempted Theft

A handyman who allegedly stole thousands in cash and jewelry from a Lexington resident was reportedly caught in the act and charged with attempting to commit a felony.

A Pepperell man was arrested earlier this week in Lexington after police detectives used a decoy to catch him attempting to steal money and jewelry from his sometimes employer’s Holmes Road residence. Mid-morning on Tuesday, Oct. 18, Richard W. McGarry, Jr. allegedly walked right into a trap that detectives set for him after a woman he’s done odd jobs for reported she was missing thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry. According to a police report, an alarm was triggered about 10:20 a.m. and patrol officers and detectives responded to Holmes Road and encountered McGarry in the driveway, where he was in a state that implicated him in an attempted theft discovered at the scene. “We put a couple of decoy envelopes out and, at some point, he…

Tuesday, Oct. 18 7:45 a.m. – A loose-running dog was reportedly sitting in traffic on Marrett Road. 9:38 a.m. – Officers investigated a motor vehicle accident on Bedford Street. 10:20 a.m. – A burglary investigation on Holmes Road resulted in the arrest of Richard W. McGarry, Jr., 24, of 82 West St., Pepperell, on charges of breaking and entering in the daytime with intent to commit a felony and attempting to commit a crime. 10:48 a.m. – An employee of the CVS on Massachusetts Avenue reported a white man attempted to pass two phony prescriptions for controlled substances, including Oxycodone. 1:44 p.m. – As a result of an earlier investigation, officers checking pharmacies learned a white man successfully passed a phony prescription for …

In recent weeks, Lexington Police have kept busy with all kinds of calls. This month, several indviduals have been arrested for operating under the influence and police have responded to several loud house parties, including one that send dozens of kids scattering around Tower Road. More than 100 cars have been burglarized since the start of the year. In the last week or so, an officer was propositioned by an alleged prostitute in a Lexington apartment, and police on Wednesday arrested a Woburn man for an alleged armed robbery attempt. They're still looking for additional suspects invovled in that cases. And then there was the whole hawk dive-bombing a school bus thing... Week in Review, May 1 to 6

Springtime celebrations, community center conversations, houses burglarized and trash talk with the League of Women Voters.

This week was a fairly busy one in Lexington. Last Sunday, May 1, several celebrations were held simultaneously around Lexington Center. Children danced 'round the Maypole, adults oogled at an impressive collection of classic cars and a supposed scavenger hunt happened, too. On Monday, the Board of Selectmen heard about a bundle of Public Works-related items, including recycling and trash contracts and a proclamation recognizing national Public Works Day. The board also agreed to form and charge a task force to produce a report on a Community Center. Monday and Wednesday, May 4, also saw the Lexington Police respond to reports of an attempted residential breaking-and-entering, a possible gypsy paving scam and an alleged home burglary. The …
