Five Things: LWV Candidate's Night is Tonight at Lexington High

A quick look at what you need to see, do and know on Feb. 14 in Lexington.

1. Candidate's Night at Lexington High School: At 7 p.m. tonight, the League of Women Voters of Lexington will its annual Candidates Night in Science Lecture Hall at Lexington High School. 2. Pony Rides to Support the Equestrian Team: From 2 to 3 p.m. today (and 3 to 4 p.m. on Saturday) Four Fillies Farm is offering pony rides for children ages 3 and up. The $10 cost is to benefit the Lexington Equestrian Team. 3. Today in Public Meetings: According to the town website, public meetings posted for today include the Tree Committee at 7:30 a.m. at the DPW Building, the Lexington Center Committee at 8 a.m. at the Town Office Building, the ad hoc School Transportation and Safety Study Committee at 9 a.m. at the Central Administration Building, …

LWV Candidates Night Scheduled for Valentine's Day

The following announcement was provided by the League of Women Voters of Lexington. The League of Women Voters of Lexington will present a Candidates Night on Thursday, Feb. 14 in the Science Lecture Hall at Lexington High School. An annual event presented by the league to encourage greater participation in Town elections, this is an opportunity for candidates to present their positions on the issues and to listen to their constituents’ concerns.  In the first part of the evening, candidates for Town Meeting will gather in assigned classrooms to meet and exchange ideas with voters from their own precincts. In the second part, the audience will meet in the school auditorium to hear the views of people seeking Town-wide elective office, …

VIDEO: Moderator Brown Shares Tricks of the Trade

Speaking at the Lexington League of Women Voters Candidates' Night last week, Town Moderator Deborah Brown said she hopes to continue with strategies that helped streamline last year’s annual Town Meeting, which concluded before Patriots Day.

Town Moderator Deborah Brown doesn’t have an opponent in the March 6 annual Town Elections, but she still made a few promises she intends to keep in the coming year. “The first is maintaining a civil tone of debate without censoring the expression of differing perspectives,” Brown said at the Lexington League of Women Voters Candidates’ Night held last week at Clarke Middle School. “And the second is facilitating an efficient meeting without sacrificing adequate discussion of important issues.” Brown, who took over as Town Moderator in 2009, said she’ll continue with strategies that helped streamline last year’s annual Town Meeting, which concluded before Patriots Day.
