Winter Band Festival: Lexington Public Schools musicians from Estabrook, Fiske and Hastings elementary schools, Clarke Middle School and all three Lexington High School bands will perform during during the All Town Winter Band Festival I at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Lexington High. PHOTOS: Holiday Spirit Shines on Festival Night in Lexington Center

Locals enjoyed shops open late, strolling carolers, a visit from Santa Claus and more Friday night during the annual Holiday Festival Night in Lexington Center.

Holiday spirit hung thick in the crisp December air Friday evening as parents and children swarmed Lexington Center to take in all that the annual Festival Night had to offer. With the streetscape lit up like a card from Currier and Ives, shops and restaurants stayed open late and held raffles and sales. The Lexington Symphony performed a pair of holiday pops concerts at Cary Hall and  strolling carolers and standing musicians provided entertainment at other participating locations along Massachusetts Avenue. At about 6:30 p.m., Santa Claus, who traded in his reindeer for a fire truck, rode into the Depot for a ceremonial tree lighting. And, throughout the evening, Cary Memorial Library extended its hours and offerings to include madrigal …

More on Panera's Opening in Lexington Center

Panera Bread and the Lexington Chamber will mark the Nov. 28 opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and cooperative effort to support Children's Hospital.

The following is a ress release from Panera Bread: Panera is pleased to announce the opening of its newest bakery-cafe in Lexington on Monday, Nov. 28 at 1684 Mass Avenue. Panera Bread and the Lexington Chamber of Commerce will join together for a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening. The new bakery-cafe features a unique layout, featuring Panera’s three-season sunroom surrounded by floor to ceiling windows, a double-sided fireplace to warm up on the coldest of days, a spacious outdoor patio, and a free parking area behind the building. Week in Review: Oct. 9 to 15

A look back at the week that was in Lexington.

Was a short, but eventful week in Lexington.  On Monday—Columbus Day—Patch hopped on the Liberty Ride, which is celebrating the end of its 10th season by offering discounted rates for Lexington residents the rest of this month. Tuesday night was certainly a busy one, with a Sustainable Lexington forum, a School Committee meeting and the Board of Selectmen talking with the Busa Land Use Proposal Committee. Around the same time, Lexington Police and a tactical team from the North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council subdued a suicidal man barricaded in a bedroom. Lexington Firefighters wore pink proudly on Wednesday, their bubble gum-colored T-shirts showing their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And that night, they …

Business Leaders Back Dana Home Proposal

At an Oct. 12 business breakfast hosted by the Lexington Chamber of Commerce, several spoke in favor of plans to turn the former retirement residence into an inn and restaurant.

Business leaders from several of Lexington’s industries spoke in favor of a proposal to turn the Dana Home into an inn and restaurant Wednesday morning at the Chamber of Commerce’s Business Breakfast Forum. From farmers to an airline leader to a hotel manager and school superintendent, several folks said a quintessentially New England bed and breakfast would benefit the town and, potentially, their businesses during the Oct. 12 forum at the Lexington Depot. “These are the kids of things that revitalize the community and make it worth living here,” said Nick Cannalonga of Wagon Wheel Nursery.  According to the Lexington Chamber of Commerce, the Dana Home proposal was tapped to be the forum’s featured presentation due to the “project’s solid…

About Town: Autumn Arts and Crafts Festival

18th Annual Celebration

Lexington’s Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the 18th Autumn Arts & Crafts Festival on Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The rain date is Sept. 25 during the same hours. Chamber Director Mary Jo Bohart said she’s looking at weather predictions and will let us know by tomorrow morning if it’s being held Saturday or Sunday. In turn, we’ll let you know. The festival is on the Visitors’ Center lawn at 1875 Massachusetts Avenue and admission is free. Mary Jo said we have at least three Lexington artisans. Look for a fiber artist, an artist who works with plant life and a jewelry maker. Everyone else is from the New England area, Mary Jo said. This year’s event features almost 100 artisans whose work includes: ceramics; jewelry; woodwork; …

About Town: It's On

The last installment of the Chamber of Commerce's Summer Concert Series is a go.

Sunshine reigns today - and tonight. That means the Chamber of Commerce's Summer Concert Series finale is on.  Strictly Overtime will start playing popular rock and roll tunes at 6:30 p.m. The concert continues until dusk. Thank you to Mary Jo Bohart and the Chamber for these wonderful concerts. Here's to an uneventful weekend in Lexington. We'll "batton down the hatches" just in case, but let's hope its all for naught.

Five Things You Need to Know Today: Aug 26

Hurricane's coming, last summer concert and more today in Lexington.

1. In anticipation of Hurricane Irene, the town website now features links to tips for hurricane preparedness and mitigation. 2. Keeping with hurricane prep, town officials are meeting at 12 p.m. today at the Public Works Building and will hop on a call with the Massachusetts Emergency Managment Agency at 12:30 p.m. More definitive plans could be available after the meeting. 3.  The final peformance of the Chamber of Commerce's Summer Concert Series is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. this evening, on the Visitors Center lawn. 4. About Town: Friday Finale

The Chamber's last summer concert.

The Lexington Chamber of Commerce’s final concert, at the Visitors Center is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow night. Strictly Overtime, a band that plays rock and roll favorites, is slated to play the last musical notes in the Chamber's Summer Concert Series.  The chamber offered eight concerts in its summer series. They are all played on the lawn in front of the Massachusetts Avenue Visitors Center. “This particular band has not performed here before,” the Chamber’s Executive Director, Mary Jo Bohart, said. “They are excited about their debut ... and to play in historic Lexington.” There is a proviso and it’s the precursor to Hurricane Irene.
