Father Arnold Colletti, pastor of the Sacred Heart and St. Brigid parishes in Lexington, said the resignation opens the door for exciting possibilities.
It’s not often a decision can rightly be considered both “bold” and “humble,” but that’s how Father Arnold Colletti described Pope Benedict XVI’s decision to resign the papacy at the end of the month. Three months past his own retirement age, Colletti, 78, said he can understand the decision by Benedict, who is 86, to resign the papacy due to his age and diminishing energy. With that being said, the unprecedented move has Colletti—who is appointed for a year at a time to his position as pastor of the Sacred Heart and St. Brigid parishes in Lexington—wishing he was three decades younger. “It’s exciting,” said Colletti. “I told Cardinal Sean O’Malley I wish I was 30 years younger because I feel there is something exciting coming on.” That’s …

If you knit, quilt, make costumes or clothes, crochet or are into any other form of fiber arts, then the 300th's Fiber Arts Committee wants you. They're meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday May 6 at St. Brigid's Parish Center.
The following was provided by the Lexington 300th Committee. If you sew, knit or stitch, and want to get involved in getting ready for Lexington's 300th anniversary, the 300th's Fiber Arts Committee is meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday May 6 in the library in the St. Brigid's Parish Center. All are welcome and encouraged to participate. From Massachusetts Avenue, the Parish Center is the building to the left of the church. The library is the first room on the right as you enter through the front doors on Massachusetts Avenue. The 300th celebration kicks off Friday, Sept. 21, with special events scheduled through Memorial Day weekend 2013. The following press release was provided by Nancy Keebler, from Sacred Heart Parish. After serving as a Catholic priest for 50 years, Fr. Arnold Colletti reflects that it was probably only through divine intervention that he was ordained in 1962. Born in Braintree into a nonreligious family, he was baptized at age 7 only after a babysitter suggested it. After the family moved away from Braintree a year later, he received little encouragement to remain Catholic, and even less when he decided to become a priest. His mother supported his decision, he says, but his father spent 3 years trying to talk him out of it. Colletti never changed his mind.
