Better Buckle Up: Click It or Ticket Mobilization Coming to Lexington

Enforcement mobilization runs from May 20 through June 2 but officers are out enforcing seat belt laws year-round.

The following was provided on behalf of the Lexington Police Department. As motorists take to the roads this Memorial Day holiday, local police are urging everyone to buckle up. The Lexington Police Department, in partnership with the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s (EOPSS) Highway Safety Division (HSD), the State Police and more than 122 other local departments will take part in the 2013 national Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization from May 20 to June 2 and crack down on motorists who are not belted. “As we kick-off  the busy summer driving season it’s important that everyone buckles up every time they go out, both day and night – no excuses,” said Lt. LPD Launching High-Visibility Click It or Ticket Enforcement Blitz

Massachusetts is getting tough on all drivers and passengers in an effort to boost seat belt use and save lives.

  The following announcement was provided by the Lexington Police Department. The Lexington Police Department in partnership with the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s (EOPSS) Highway Safety Division (HSD), the State Police and numerous other local departments announce the second of three mobilizations of a high-visibility seat belt enforcement blitz titled, “Click It or Ticket.”  While other mobilizations falling under this same grant focus more on drunk driving and impaired operator enforcement, this mobilization focuses on aggressive driving, lack of safety belt use, speeding, distracted driving and other risk-taking motor vehicle behaviors (i.e. non-compliance with the Move Over Law). A look back at the week that was in Lexington.

This week started off with strong words about the "White House" from Selectman Peter Kelley, who sounded off about spending public money on the dilapidated structure during the Board of Selectman's Dec. 12 discussion about Community Preservation Act proposals.  “I never felt it was worthy of any investment other than the cost to crush it and move it,” Kelley said. “We’re just wasting good public money dressing that pig up. It’s bad news.” Four of the five selectmen declined to opine on spending $202,000 to stabilize any bit of the White House until hearing the Historic Districts Commission’s view on moving the decaying Greek Revival, or sections of it, from 1557 Massachusetts Ave. to the Leary Land. Under the Influence and Under Arrest: A Shoeless Man and Heroin in a Minivan

One driver allegedly had drugs in his system and in his vehicle. Another allegedly intoxicated motorist abandoned his vehicle in the middle of Waltham Street. Both were placed under arrest for operating under the influence.

The "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" component of an upcoming Click It or Ticket mobilization won't kick off until Dec. 16, but a pair of incidents involving drivers operating under the influence kept Lexington Police busy this past weekend.  Around 5 p.m. last Friday, Dec. 9, officers received a call from a motorist who reported following a vehicle driving erratically down Massachusetts Avenue, swerving and almost hitting three other vehicles as it made its way into town from the Arlington line. The responding officer pulled over the vehicle in question, a Dodge Caravan, by the Church of St. Brigid’s on Mass Ave. After speaking with the operator, identified as John Robert Stocki, 21, of 9 Judges Road, Lexington, police arrested Stocki and…
