Police are investigating the reported theft of expensive tools and copper from a job site on Forbes Road.
Lexington Police are investigating the alleged theft of high-end tools and copper from a construction site for MIT Lincoln Labs. According to a police report, a call came in shortly before 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12 reporting a breaking-and-entering to tool storage containers on Forbes Road, which is located off Route 2A. Seven of the eight companies on the site reported they were missing expensive tools and it appears the alleged thieves were targeting copper, as well, police said. According to the police report, on-scene surveillance indicates the theft occurred between 2 and 4 a.m. on Sept. 12, but it’s no additional about the suspects or how they committed the alleged crime was available as of Friday, Sept. 16. State aid swallowed by snow and ice, a spot of crime, youth theatre and an ice cream social this week in Lexington.
We started this week with an invitation – to you, readers – asking Lexingtonians to help us create a passport to your hometown, which we’ll reveal as a series in a few weeks. There’s still time to participate, so don’t be shy. Monday afternoon’s police logs contained reports of partying and copper thefts, which we explained in greater detail on the next morning. Tuesday’s coverage of the Town Manager Carl Valente’s report to the Board of Selectmen explained that the state’s local aid numbers were encouraging, but the surplus funds will be eaten up by the deficit in the snow and ice budget. Readers woke up Wednesday to a pair of stories introducing interim Fire Chief Keith Hoyle and explaining the paper-covered windows where Waldenbooks …

More than $27,000 worth of copper was stolen from a Hartwell Avenue building last week.
Police in Lexington are investigating the reported theft of more than $25,000 worth of copper cords from a commercial building on Hartwell Avenue. This latest metal larceny – which police believe was carried out in connected acts last week – comes well after local incidences of copper theft quieted down, according to police. At 4:32 p.m. Thursday, July 7, an employee from a Hartwell Avenue company reported more than $20,000 worth of heavy copper cables had been stolen from outside the building. The following afternoon, police were called again to the same company, where another three copper cords, each valued at about $2,500, were reportedly stolen. Given that the same material was reportedly stolen from the same site in each instance, …
