Engine Fires Ignite Ford Escape, Fusion Recalls

It's the fourth recall for the brand-new Escape. Ford is offering loaner cars to buyers until they can fix the problem.

The 2013 Ford Escape is undergoing its fourth recall since its introduction earlier this year. Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 89,000 new Escape SUVs and Fusion sedans because the engines can overheat and cause fires. The Escape is a top seller for Ford. The 2013 version went on sale in the spring, and it already has had problems with coolant leaks, cracked fuel lines and carpet padding. Both the Fusion and Escape are among Ford's top-selling vehicles selling a combined 427,000 already this year, according to Autodata Corp. Note this figure includes those from the previous model year. Eric Michelson takes the Model T -- and me -- for a spin.

In a perfect world today's update would include videos of the Model T ride taken with Eric Michelson. The iPhone doesn't work like the Flip or Kodak video cameras, so I'm going to need a lesson from Patrick. There's a farming (and food) event tomorrow, which I hope to attend.  Lexington Community Farm Coalition members, friends and anyone else interested in eating and learning, are heading to Waltham Fields Community Farm at 240 Beaver Street tomorrow. Everyone will have a farm-fresh breakfast prepared by Belmont Kitchen's owner and chef, Joh Kokubo. The food will, of course, come from the fields. The day starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m. Once finished with breakfast visitors may see how well a community farm works. Cost is $5 per …
