Here are a few fun facts about the February holiday honoring our country's former leaders.
1. America, I AM YOUR FATHER: George Washington, known as "The Father of Our Country," was the first president of the United States. He played a major role in the drafting of the Declaration of Independence, declaring the colonies to be free and independent states. He fought valiantly in the American Revolution and led the Colonists to Freedom as the Commander in Chief of the Continental Army. 2. GEORGE'S THOUGHT PROCESS: Washington was a methodical man. He gave a great deal of thought to every decision he made. However, once his decision was made he did not waver in his resolve. Valley Forge is a testimonial to that resolve. Valley Forge was a strategic location chosen because it separated the British forces in Philadelphia from the …

To market, to market... And some more Munroe Tavern information.
When you head to the Farmers' Market tomorrow think about two wheels rather than four. Yes,it's Bike to the Market day tomorrow where the Friends of the Lexington Bikeway and Ride Studio Cafe will host a bicycle corral. The first 40 cyclists to check in the bike valets (yes, you read correctly) receive a $2 gift coupon for the market, which may be used as cash for any purchase there. The Friends are encouraging you to chat with them for a few minutes during your stay. They'll talk about stewardship and bicycle education programs. Posted at 5:45 a.m. this morning ... So, I’ll give you some outside views and tell you what’s inside. Lexington Historical Society Archivist Elaine Doran gave me a tour and explained the new addition, which really is the footprint of the original tavern. The tap room, or the spot where …

Satirical talk show, "Chatting With History," has an A-list lineup that includes George Washington, Moses and Noah.
If you could have a conversation with any historical figure, who would it be? Columbus? Washington? Maybe Moses? Well, Lexington resident Dan Gersten will shoot the breeze with to those three and more on his new satirical talk show, “Chatting With History,” which premiers tonight, May 11, at 8 p.m. on LPTV. “It’s irreverent in a respectful way,” said Gersten. “But it’s going to be somewhat controversial.” Gersten enlists area actors to portray his guests, and the starting lineup includes Adam, Noah, Moses, Columbus and George Washington. Eve, God, Ben Franklin, Jesus and Alexander Graham Bell are also on his list, as well. “I’m a fan of history,” said Gersten. “I totally believe it repeats itself and is constantly reinvented and has been …
