Grinch-Like Activities Grab Police Attention in Lexington

LPD is looking into break-ins at a local nursery and holiday hotspot, as well as the reported theft of 100 glass ornaments.

Police in Lexington are investigating a mild rash of Grinch-like activities last week. According to a police reports, officers responded to reported breaking-and-enterings at Shemin Nurseries and Seasons Four last Wednesday, Dec. 7. A report of stolen glass ornaments came in that same day.  In the case of Shemin Nurseries, which offered a year-end blowout sale that ended yesterday, someone reportedly entered the Massachusetts Avenue business through a rear window and stole several items. Police declined to reveal what reported missing, citing an ongoing investigation. Week in Review: Dec. 4 to 10

A look back at the week that was in Lexington.

Holidays and criminal hijinks made headlines this week in Lexington, and in one case, a story even combined the two. Last Sunday was Luminary Night, in which residents set sidewalks and landmarks aglow with luminary kits purchased from the Historical Society and LexFUN!, who put the proceeds toward local scholarships and educational programs. That morning, however, dawned with continuing coverage of the previous evening's two-alarm housefire on Hancock Street, which displaced a family and saw mutual aid come from several area fire departments. Police Log: Vandalized Letters and Stolen Ornaments

The following information from Dec. 5 to Dec. 8 was provided by the Lexington Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Monday, Dec. 5 2:53 a.m. – Officers investigating a 911 hang-up from a Bedford Street hotel arrested a Medford man for domestic assault and battery. According to the police report, the call came in after a reported argument between a guest and his girlfriend. Johnny P. McCloskey, 23, of 50 Water St., Medford, was arrested and charged with domestic assault and battery. 10:51 a.m. –  Police responded to a reported vandalism in which seven raised letters were pulled off the rear of a Massachusetts Avenue building over the weekend. The letters, from Khushboo and Body Works Revolution, were valued at about $55 each, according to the police report. 11:30 a.m. – A 15-year-old teen received a summons for possession of marijuana after police …
