Haunted History This Halloween at MMNHP

New England ghost stories highlight a pair of upcoming free Halloween events at Minuteman National Historical Park.

Halloween Tales Hartwell Tavern will be the scene of spooky, New England ghost stories tomorrow night, Oct. 22, as two rounds of “Halloween Tales” will be told.  From 4:45 to 5:45 p.m., the stories told will be appropriate for listeners ages 6 and under, but the fear factor will escalate for the 7 to 9 p.m. session. The spooky, candle-lit evening will take place inside the Hartwell Tavern, located on Route 2A in Lincoln, but guests are advised to bring flashlights for the walk from the parking area to the tavern. Haunting Hawthorne Nathaniel Hawthorne sure could be haunting, with chilling tales like “The Minister’s Black Veil.” And he will be once again this Wednesday night at The Wayside as the “author,” portrayed by literary scholar Rob …

Question of the Day: Battle Road Trail Closure

Minute Man National Historical Park announced yesterday that portions of the Battle Road Trail will be closing temporarily, to allow for repairs to the 12-year-old trail. According to a press release,the first phase of trail work will focus on the area from the Meriam's Corner parking area on Lexington Road in Concord to the boardwalk crossing the Elm Brook wetlands in Lincoln. Work will then shift to the area east of the Elm Brook boardwalk and to the area east of historic Hartwell Tavern. The first phase will wrap up in mid-July, but the exact dates for this second phase of work have not yet been determined, the press release said. when you say "East of Elm something or other, where is that ? And East to the other side of Hartwell Tavern, does that mean from, where to where, how many feet or miles ? Cannot you provide a simple map ? I don't know where the Elm is ?   more ›
