Petition Seeks Ouster of Lexington AD Over Email Imbroglio

A Change(.org) gonna come?

  An online petition is calling for, among other things, the dismissal of Lexington’s athletic director, who admitted last week to doctoring an email that immediately preceded the Middlesex League’s Title IX-driven decision to abandon its doubleheader basketball schedule. Last week, Naomi Martin, the athletic director at Lexington High, was given a week of unpaid leave after it came to light that she had fabricated information attributed to a Lexington parent in a November email to athletic directors across the Middlesex League. On Jan. 19, Superintendent of Schools Paul Ash sent an email to that same audience attempting to “correct the record” and calling Martin’s actions “unacceptable.” Earlier this week, a petition hit the interwebs …

VIDEO: Watertown Takes Down Lexington in Field Hockey

The Raiders kept their record perfect with the win against Middlesex League rival Lexington.

Emily Loprete scored twice to lead the Raiders of Watertown past Lexington in a match up of Middlesex League field hockey powers Monday at Victory Field. The Raiders improved to 11-0-0, and kept their undefeated streak going, which dates back two-and-a-half seasons. Lexington kept the game scoreless for more than half the game, but the Raiders did not allow any shots on goal in the second period while scoring twice.  With the loss, Lexington's record drops to 8-2-1.

PHOTOS: Minutemen Topped by Visiting Tigers

It's a second straight early exit for the Lexington High varsity baseball team after a 10-7 lost to Newton North in MIAA North Division 1 preliminary round playoff action on Thursday, May 31.

The game ended as it began – with Chris Shaw, MVP of his league, waiting outside the home dugout.  It was the bottom of the 9th, with one on, one out, the Minutemen trailing by three runs and Shaw in the hole. If he made it to the plate, Lexington’s senior slugger would have a chance to tie the game at 10s or put his team in the lead. But a lineout and a strikeout later, and the Minutemen’s do-or-die rally died with Shaw in the on-deck circle. And with that, Lexington High's baseball season was over. The Minutemen fell, 10-7, to the visiting Newton North Tigers during their MIAA North Division 1 preliminary round playoff game Thursday, May 31 in Lexington. LHS Baseball, Softball Squads Host Playoff Games This Week

The No. 11 baseball squad hosts Newton North at 2 p.m. tomorrow, May 31, and the No. 12 softball team hosts Revere at 3:15 p.m. on Friday, June 1.

Lexington High’s varsity baseball and softball teams have both locked up home playoff games in the preliminary rounds of the MIAA North Division 1 playoffs. The No. 11-seeded baseball team hosts No. 22 Newton North at 2 p.m. tomorrow, May 31, and the softball team is the No. 12 seed and will host No. 21 Revere at 3:15 on Friday, June 1. On the baseball diamond, the Minutemen finished 12-8. Their opponents from Newton North enter postseason play with a .500 record of 10-10. Despite a landing a lower seed than their counterparts, the LHS softball team actually had a better record than the boys, finishing the season at 14-7. Their opponents from Revere went 10-10.
