LBYH Travel Hockey Registration Now Open

You can register online for Lexington-Bedford Youth Hockey's 2013-2014 travel season.

Lexington-Bedford Youth Hockey earlier this week announced registration is no open for the organization's 2013-2014 travel hockey season. To register online, you can head over to the organization's website, www.lbyh.net, and select the "Register Online" tab from the home page, according to the announcement. Tryouts for all programs will be announced soon, LBYH said, and will take place at the end of March and the beginning of April Questions? Email registrar@lbyh.net.

Remember When This Happened?

The Bruins could be primed for a championship run in a lockout-shortened NHL season. So in honor of the hockey's anticipated return, let's rewind to September 2011, when Claude and the Cup visited LPD.

So, as you’ve probably heard, it looks like hockey’s coming back. News broke earlier this week that the National Hockey League and the NHL’s Player’s Association reached a deal on a new collective bargaining agreement and a lockout-shortened season could start Jan. 19. According to ESPN, the framework for the agreement was announced Sunday, but the deal still requires majority approval from the board of governors, which is scheduled to meet today, Jan. 8. Meanwhile, with the agreement looking imminent, analysts and fans have wasted little time positing about the local squad’s chances to make a run at Lord Stanley’s Cup in this abbreviated season. Taking it Personally: Sports and Life

Try not to confuse the two.

I have to admit up front that I usually watch sports with no real idea who is playing and why one side or the other should win. I like sports. I played sports all through high school and college. I also played on several teams during my years in the Navy, which was maybe the best place to play because no matter how good you were on the field or court or track, you had a real job which mattered a lot more than whatever sport you were playing at the time. Oh, I have enthusiasms. You will always find me cheering for Lexington High School football and hockey and you will probably find me at those games with a microphone in my hand. But the two sports I really like are Lexington Bedford In-House Hockey and any T-Ball game. Huh? T-Ball and kid …
