Primary winners Barrett and Martinez carried Lexington precincts in the Third Middlesex state senate district. Wrestling legend Ric Flair received votes in several categories on a Republican ballot.
Seventeen percent of Lexington's 21,710 registered voters cast ballots in Thursday's state primary, but participation wasn't exactly consistent all around town. In precincts 3, 8 and 9, which are in the Third Middlesex State Senate District, turnout was consistently higher than in the town's other six districts, which did not have a seven-candidate race for an open seat. Voters in those districts overwhelmingly supported Lexington Democrat Mike Barrett and, by a slimmer margin, backed Chelmsford Republican Sandi Martinez, the two candidates who will face off in November for the right to replace retiring state Sen. Susan Fargo, D-Lincoln, who has decided not to seek a ninth term. Carrying his hometown but losing his race was Lexington …

Candidates say they are ready to take on Ed Markey.
A trio of Republicans in the new fifth district are vying for the opportunity to challenge Ed Markey for his long-held seat in congress. Voters heading to the polls for Thursday's primary in the new district will see three names on the ballot for the Republican nomination: Tom Tierney, Frank Addivinola and Lexington's Jeff Semon. Each of the three wants the chance to topple Ed Markey, a Democrat from Malden. It's a tall task -- Markey has been elected to 18 consecutive terms and has never won by less than 28 points. But his district has been re-aligned since his last election in 2010, and it has added Southborough, Ashland, Holliston, Sherborn, most of Sudbury and about half of Cambridge. The district shuffle could create an opportunity …

Jeff Semon and Frank Addivinola face off in Sept. 6's primary for the right to challenge Democratic Congressman Ed Markey. Here's how their campaign finances look.
Lexington's Jeff Semon is ahead of fellow Republican Frank Addivinola when it comes to fundraising in the Massachusetts 5th congressional district race, but both have a long way to go before they match the fundraising prowess of 35-year Democratic incumbent Ed Markey. According to the Federal Election Commission, from April 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012, Semon raised $21,086 in contributions and took out no loans. Meanwhile, Addivinola raised $6,810 in contributions between Jan. 1 and June 30 of this year, and took out $8,870 in loans. Both candidates are in the black on their financial sheets. Semon has spent $17,772 on operating his campaign, while Addivinola has spent $1,200 on operating his campaign and $5,634 in loan repayments. …

A Lexington Republican seeking to unseat Democrat Ed Markey in the 5th District, Jeff Semon says "common sense knows no language or ethnic barrier," in announcing the launch of jeffen2012.com
During campaign season, candidates choose their words wisely. And Lexington Republican Jeff Semon, a congressional candidate in Massachusetts' Fifth District, hopes one letter can make a lot of difference as he attempts to unseat Democrat Ed Markey. In an attempt to reach more residents in more communities, Semon has launched jeffen2012.com, a Spanish language campaign website he says is the first by a major candidate in Massachusetts. His standard website is jeffin2012.com. “Today is the beginning of the end of empty promises and political pandering to the voters of Massachusetts’ 5th District.” Semon said in a statement. The website debut, a move touted by party officials, came earlier this month in Framingham when Semon partnered with …

The Republican primary for the 5th Congressional District is Sept. 6.
Jeff Semon and Frank Addivinola both want to oust Rep. Ed Markey from his 5th Congressional District seat in Congress, which represents Melrose. The event was sponsored by the Ashland Republican Town Committee. The winner of the Sept. 6 Republican primary will face Markey in November. During the debate, the two Republicans took jabs at each other. Semon questioned how Addivinola thinks he can win when he lost a state senate race in 2010. Addivinola questioned how long Semon has lived in Massachusetts and his business background. Semon also questioned whether Addivinola even lives in the 5th …

U.S. Rep. Ed Markey is under fire in a fundraising video from Republican challenger Jeff Semon of Lexington.
For many months now, Lexington Republican Jeff Semon has had his sights set on Congressman Ed Markey’s seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. But now the Malden Democrat is the target of Semon’s latest Web ad, released today, June 26. The video, titled “Why Washington is Broken,” casts Markey as driving the ideological divide between Democrats and Republicans with extreme views and rhetoric. “Ed Markey is the most divisive member of the House of Representatives and all Americans need to be made aware of the damage he is doing to our country,” Semon says in a press release announcing the video. “As I mentioned in the video, we need solutions in Washington, not slander.” The press release – which reminds voters that Markey was elected …

The two GOP candidates running for the 5th Congressional District spoke to voters at the Shutt Detachment this week.
Two Republican candidates for Massachusetts’ 5th Congressional District say 36 years is enough for Democrat Edward Markey, and they want to cut spending by the Federal government and improve the economy. Lexington’s Jeff Semon and Frank Addivinola of Malden met with GOP supporters in Watertown this week at a Meet the Candidates night at the Marine Corps League’s Shutt Detachment. Addivinola said Markey has lost touch with what the public wants, and criticized his support of environmental regulations. “Markey says environmental regulations stimulates job growth,” Addivnola said. “ I object to that – regulations impede progress.” In an MSNBC interview Markey said he believes jobs are created by driving innovation in new technology to meet …

Semon is running to restore fiscal responsibility to Washington and return robust economic growth to America. Conway ended his chairmanship of the Melrose RCC coinciding with the state committee elections held in March. “In 2012, Jeff Semon represents our best chance to build a positive path for the future” Conway said. Semon’s campaign continues to gain significant momentum that has…
